Jewish teaching within family Essay In this essay I will look at what Jews believe they must do to bring up and care for their family, what rabbis say on this and what is written in the bible. The first thing I will examine is contraception many Jews consider a large family as a blessing from god and for this reason see contraception as a hindrance and interference with the divine plan. Within Jewish marriage sexual behaviour is guided by a code of conduct from the torah in which a man and his wife are not allowed to have sexual relations during the wifes menstruation period and for an entire week after couples find this actually strengthens their marriage with each buying each other gifts or doing other non physical acts, after this a woman is supposed to go to a pool called a mikveh where she immerses her entire body in water, this is supposed to create an atmosphere almost like the engagement period. A wife returning from the mikveh is as fresh to her husband as on their wedding day. Parents and children: Judaism teaches that parents and children have a certain responsibilities towards each other. Honour your father and mother a rabbi once said this works both ways he said this is not only an instruction to the child but also to the parent make yourselves the kind of people your child wants to respect. Parents are expected to feed clothe, and educate their children, and see that they can support themselves. Teach your son a trade says the Talmud or teach him to become a robber. They are supposed to teach them basic survival skills like swimming and a craft they are also supposed to teach them some things about the world like dont accept lifts from strangers which is considered as basic common in some places but in Judaism these are considered as religious obligations. They also are supposed to teach them morale obligations and to be morale people. They are given guidance and a guide sometimes it is necessary to punish a child says the Talmud but do not threaten to do so either do it right away or let it drop. Children are supposed to be as equally respectful to their parents though see that they eat and drink, and take them where they need to go Talmud. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Computer Gaming Addiction is a modern problem in maritime high school students nowadays. It is a challenging part to the teachers to let students stay focused in their everyday lessons. It greatly affects the mental health of every student who is involved in this kind of activity. Computer Gaming Addiction by nature is the irresistible addiction and abusive use of computer for gaming purposes and sometimes even resulting to harmful effects to the part of the user. The person who is involved in this kind of activity can’t control the urge in playing computer games. By being addicted to computer games is like being addicted to drugs, alcohol, or gambling which resulted in academic failure. Apparently, computer gaming addiction has spread throughout the world, including Philippines. Several cases of computer gaming addiction were already recorded in the country and most of the addicted individuals, sadly, comes mostly from the high school category and usually are subjected to academic failure and cutting of classes. One dominant theme in the modern world is the rapid spread of technology, which is having a great impact on children’s toys and computer games. The great strides in computer chip technology over the last several decades have made electronic games and toys more powerful and affordable every year. These famous computer games are not only popular with children but also with millions of teenagers and adults, which greatly increases their reach and overall popularity. Total annual sales of home video game systems—such as Nintendo GameCube and Game Boy, Sony PlayStation, and Microsoft Xbox—and related software passed $10 billion in the first few years of the 21st century in the United States, and the industry continues to expand. At the same time, some child-development experts and parents fear that the long hours spent playing video and computer games can hamper children’s social skills, discourage more imaginative play, and—in the case of more explicit games—promote violence. The Effects of Computer Games Addiction Putting the Real World Aside Computer games addiction has no physical component or objective diagnosis, but many of the consequences are similar to alcoholism or drug addiction. Some addicts allow jobs, relationships and academic careers to languish or collapse in order to spend more time playing their favorite games. Gamers who become entrenched in excessive daily gaming routines can find it difficult to make room for much else in life. Social Isolation Computer games addicts tend to isolate themselves from normal, face-to-face human contact. Some of the most addictive games are found online, where the player competes and cooperate with others around the world. These online relationships online can eventually crowd out more intimate, real-life ones. The Financial Drain The sheer amount of time many addicts spend playing—100 hours a week or more, in some cases—inevitably leads to decreased job or academic performance. Late nights and days spent obsessing over the game make the addict unable to perform as well as he would be able to otherwise. Some gamers spend real money on virtual products to make their characters more powerful or distinctive, reducing the money available for necessities. Impact on Family Aside from academic obligations, children and young people have relatively few responsibilities to shirk by playing games. When an adult with dependents becomes addicted to computer games, however, the addiction can shatter a family. Game obsession takes away from time spent with family, which can lead to neglect of children and weakening of marriage bonds. Habits Computer games addiction describes an ingrained set of habits rather than a true addiction. It can be concomitant with depression or mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder or borderline personality disorder. Therapy, treatment programs and/or medication for the underlying disorder can be helpful. The earlier treatment is sought, the greater the chance it will be successful. ADVANTAGES Computer game playing may have several advantages. Proficiency in video games can develop the self-esteem of the player. It can develop eye-hand coordination, and can have other educational features. More sophisticated games can help players to develop other skills, and recent developments have built in aspects of physical exercise — although this may have limited appeal to gamers. The reality of popular culture is that we are more and more dependent on technology. A generation ago, computers were complicated and difficult to use, but modern computers are more user-friendly, and are relatively easy and enjoyable for the majority of people to use. Video games allow people to have positive experiences of using computers that can provide transferable skills for using computers for a variety of purposes. Bearing in mind the potential positive effects of video game playing, to label the activity an addiction without sufficient evidence and interpretive guidelines about what constitutes addiction could deter many children and their parents who could possibly benefit from video games. There is wide variation in video games, and although some appear to have harmful effects, particularly through the promotion of violence and other anti-social behaviors, this is a function of the content of specific games, rather than a characteristic of video games. Video games as a medium have equal potential to develop positive social skills, or to provide benign forms of entertainment — although these may not be as easily marketable to kids. Concern to Computer Addicts It’s a tough habit to kick. It’s not like you can just stop using the computer altogether. You need it for school and to stay in touch with your friends. If you’re a gamer, most of your friends may also be gamers, meaning that you would not have anyone to hang out with if you stopped playing completely. One of the primary concerns with violence in video games is that gaming is not passive. In order to play and win, the player has to be the aggressor. Rather than watching violence, as he might do on television, he’s committing the violent acts. Most researchers acknowledge that this kind of active participation affects a person’s thought patterns, at least in the short term. Micro-Teaching Reflection I had the pleasure of completing the Micro-Teaching Project at Morningside Elementary School, alongside my mentor teacher, Ms. Beccy Anderson, in her Kindergarten classroom. In this paper, I will share with you a personal reflection of my experience; the process, the school, the mentor teacher, the students, and the lessons. The Process Beginning the Micro-Teaching Project was a simple task, as I was able to plan ahead. Prior to the semester beginning I spoke with Ms. Beccy Anderson about her providing me with some classroom time to complete my requirements for this course, she enthusiastically accepted. I also ensured that my background check with the Twin Falls School District and Certified Profile was up to date. With all of my ducks in a row I was already for the course to begin. Once Spring semester began and the micro-teaching project was assigned I delivered my letter to Ms. Anderson and we arranged a time for me to complete observation. At this time, we planned when I would complete my lessons, we chose Wednesdays at 2:45pm. In order for her to be aware of what was going to be completed in the classroom, we agreed that I would send her a lesson plan or overview of the lesson the night before I would teach. How do dickens and jacobs use the genre of mystery in the signalman and the monkeys paw? To answer the question, I believe that the authors of The Signalman and The Monkeys Paw use the genres of mystery very well. I am going to explain why I think that in the following essay. The first idea that I am going to look at is the role of fate. We see this take place in both stories, but in slightly different ways. In The Monkeys Paw, we see fate take on a large role, as the story is about a monkeys paw that has been invested with a lot of evil power because an old fakir wanted to teach people not to interfere with fate and its course. In The Signalman however, the role of fate is not as large as the role in The Monkeys†¦show more content†¦Furthermore, I will look at the suggestion of spectre. In The Monkeys Paw, the paw had been invested with so much power because it had a spell put on it by an old fakir, as this holy man wanted to get a message across to people that they were not to interfere with fate and its course. The Signalman is a story about a man who sees a figure, or a spectre several times, and after the sightings, the next day somebody dies. The suggestion of spectre plays quite a big role in this story, and gives a very effective result. The left arm is across the face, and the right arm is waved, - violently waved. Moreover, the setting of The Monkeys Paw adds to the way Jacobs used the genre of mystery. Without, the night was cold and wet. You could imagine a typical mystery scene, with rain, claps of thunder etc - a effective setting. The atmosphere inside the house was equally successful in grabbing my attention, the fire was burning and the blinds were drawn, and this gives me the idea of being cosy inside when the weather outside is terrible and miserable - an appealing setting. The story is mostly set at night, which adds to the eeriness. Equally, Dickens grabs the readers attention with a disturbing atmosphere. The steep cutting nearly over his head gives me the idea of claustrophobia. The thought of a foreshortened and shadowed figure gives me the sense of a figure that is possessed and not as it seems.
